Read this if you feel 'trapped' by your niche

So this journal was always meant to be very different than anything else I've ever done online.

    That was the grand plan.

But I've false started a few times.

    It was meant to be...

    Bigger.

    Broader.

    No rules.

    No boundaries.

A rollercoaster of writing & documenting & sharing the ride build the model I run every day called 'My Quiet Empire'

Simply to write & document & share the ride.

And we really hit the ground running at the back end of last year & into Q1 of this year.

But as is life, and business, things don't always go perfectly to plan.

So I want to share the full story.

I should note too, if you sell info online via a personal brand (digital products, coaching, consulting etc) like I have since 2019...

    This story may resonate.

Especially if you’ve ever felt trapped by your ‘niche’

Thinking you can only talk about things in your market

While your other interests, passions & curiosities sit & rot in the background going unshared, unexplored & undiscussed?

You’re scared to murky the message, confuse your audience or waste precious content real estate on things that won’t ‘make money’ or generate leads?

    I hear you & I've been there.

I was there before my 2nd son was born in late 2024.

It was a journey, but I was able to break free from this constraint through a series of deliberate moves.

This is where our story began.

    Here's how we got here:

    1) I put my education business in a box

It has it’s own list, it’s own YT Channel, now it’s own Platform built from the ground up.

It's called the Lifestyle Business Academy, in case you haven't seen it yet.

We’re about to start building out the social presence for this business too.

I’m still the face of it.

It’s my story, my teaching, my strategies…

But it can stand on it’s own 2 feet as well.

    2) I removed dependency on my content for growth

For years I sold millions, with simple social posts + relationship building in the DMs.

I basically quit this cold turkey & replaced it with:

    • •Ads > Lead Magnets
    • •Ads > Low Ticket

And the core engine of my business went from conversations, to a daily email to nurture & upgrade clients.

When you make this jump you can still post content (like I am right now) but if you want to break the chains, you need to eliminate the NEED to post content.

Now I wake up every day to new leads & customers regardless of if I post 10 x per day or 10 x in a quarter.

    3) Start sharing outside your niche

I’ll raise my hand & say I’ve struggled with this (which is the entire point of this email & we'll circle back to it in a minute).

When you go from the mindset of every post has utility:

    • •To get attention
    • •To nurture
    • •To convert

To all of a sudden creating for the sake of creating?

It’s an aggressive change that can be hard to digest.

    The equivalent of creative whiplash.

You have to write, film or share because you want to put that idea, story, concept out into the world…

Even if NOTHING EVER comes back in return but the enjoyment of putting pen to paper (so to speak).

I put all the pieces in place, like this Newsletter + a fresh YT Channel.

But just haven't fully found my stride with it (more on this in a minute).

    4) Realise the financial benefit will still flow from your content, but it’ll be more indirect

I still have people become clients from my content...

But it starts because they saw me sharing my travels with my family (for example, most of what my content has been about recently as we spent 4 months in Asia)

They get curious & ask ‘what does this guy do?’

Then they found LBA, created an account & are in to the systems we have over there to nurture, convert, upgrade etc.

    5) Your output will ebb & flow (this Newsletter is a prime example)

When I first made this shift I tried to make it really structured & on a routine like it was before…

But some days it just wouldn’t come.

Then when I hit a wall in life earlier this year after a string of stuff in my personal life compounding…

I pretty much put the tools down on it completely (aside from really light content around our travels).

I wanted to just focus on being with my kids, and building the new LBA Platform.

And the cool thing is, with the change I mentioned above, this is totally fine.

Because when you make this jump you CAN stop & start as you see fit without it impacting the business.

Now here's where we go next:

By the way, if you’re still with me on this long email, cheers.

I'm writing this for 2 reasons:

    1) I know there are many people in this same boat & thinking about how they can change things up.

I want to share how you CAN do that, but also show that it's not all sunshine & rainbows on the other side & the freedom to create whatever you want, whenever you want, can present a whole new set of challenges.

    2) After a few false starts, I feel like now I’m feeling more ready to start sharing with this Newsletter again and so I’m writing this email to get back into the swing of it (it’s not unlike the gym, if you stop it can be harder to get back into it again).

    So here's my plan:

I'm going to start writing to you again as I did originally when I created this space.

Sharing behind the scenes of the journey building my education business, partnering on different projects in different niches, consulting to different businesses & with Founders + exploring different investments all around the world.

And on top of that, there'll be the other side to all of this that comes with trying to build cool shit, make money, accumulate wealth, scratch the ambition itch WHILE being a present Dad, stay healthy in body & mind, not work big hours & enjoy the ride all at the same time.

Achieving this balance has never been EASY...

Which is why during certain seasons we drop the ball on certain elements (like this Newsletter).

    But perfection isn't the goal.

The goal is to keep the North Star front & centre & do your best to fight for it every day.

An amazing life, time & space to be present with your family, travel, good food, great wine & cool projects with great people all around the world.

To me that is the ultimate thing worth fighting for.

And I'm excited to get back into sharing this ride with you in these words, and the videos I share on YT.

I hope something in here resonates & sets off even 1 lightbulb for 1 of you.

I'll be in touch again shortly.

    Talk soon,

    — JC
