The Last 12 Months Changed Everything
This is a real-time reflection on the last 12 months and the lessons I’m carrying into the new year.
I didn’t plan this as a “year in review.” It’s more like a brain dump of the things that hit me hardest, that I want on record, and that might be useful if you’re building something of your own.
Lesson 1: Rebuild Before You Have To
Earlier this year I made the call to rebuild my entire business model. Not because it was broken. Because I could see it becoming fragile.
I had a profitable education business. Good clients. Consistent revenue. But it was too dependent on me. My time, my energy, my presence.
So I restructured. Separated the brand from the business. Built systems that could run without me being in every conversation. Created space.
The lesson: don’t wait for something to break before you fix it. The best time to rebuild is when things are working. You have the margin to do it properly.
Lesson 2: Health Is The Multiplier
I dropped 35 pounds this year. Not for aesthetics. For energy.
The difference is night and day. Better focus. More patience with my kids. Sharper decisions. Better sleep. Higher output in less time.
I wish I’d prioritised this earlier. Every founder I know who’s performing at a high level has their health dialed in. It’s not a coincidence.
Lesson 3: Diversification Is Protection
This year reinforced something I’ve believed for a while: relying on one income stream is dangerous.
I now have multiple streams across my education business, consulting, partnerships, and investments. If any one of them went to zero tomorrow, I’d be fine.
That’s not about greed. It’s about resilience. It’s about sleeping well at night knowing your family is protected.
Lesson 4: Partnerships Change Everything
Some of the best things that happened this year came from partnerships. Revenue share deals. Consulting arrangements that turned into deeper collaborations. A new business launched with a friend.
I used to be very protective of my time and very hesitant to partner with anyone. This year I loosened that. Carefully. And it paid off.
The right partner doesn’t just add revenue. They add perspective, accountability, and energy.
Lesson 5: Document, Don’t Perform
I fell out of love with content creation last year. It felt performative. Like I was creating because I “had to,” not because I wanted to.
This year I shifted the lens. Instead of creating content to sell, I started documenting to leave a record. For my kids. For myself. For anyone who finds value in it.
That single shift changed everything. I’m more prolific, more authentic, and more excited about creating than I’ve been in years.
Lesson 6: Presence Is The Point
My oldest son turned two this year. My youngest was born. I watched them grow every single day because I was there.
Not on a plane. Not in an office. Not on a call.
There.
That’s the whole point of everything I’m building. Not the revenue. Not the portfolio. Not the brand.
Being there.
Looking Ahead
Heading into the new year, the foundations are set. The businesses are structured. The health is dialed. The family is good.
Now it’s about execution. Building on what’s working. Cutting what isn’t. Staying patient.
More notes coming as we go.
